Silage Inoculants

As with vegetables from a garden, a harvested crop must be properly prepared for long term storage to maintain its high nutrient quality. Research has proven that treating crops with Medipharm inoculants at harvest time assures more high quality feed at feeding time.

Inside silos where animal feed is stored, there is always a risk that mold will render a large investment worthless. Medipharm, by use of its industry leading silage inoculant technology, offers an effective way to eliminate that risk.

Silage is the centuries old technique of storing green, freshly harvested feed in silos. Scientists eventually discovered that the secret lay in the bacteria induced acidity of the feed. Certain bacteria, as they ferment sugars in the crop, produce and release lactic acid. This lowers the pH quickly, and in a sufficiently anaerobic environment, the growth of yeasts, molds, clostridia, and other decomposing organisms is prevented. The taste and quality of the feed is preserved. This natural process is far superior to the use of artificial additives like corrosive acids.

Collaborating with researchers around the world, Medipharm has isolated and marketed bacteria that successfully preserve millions of tons of green feed and food production by-products every year.

Some of the many benefits associated with treating green-fresh crops with Medipharm's microbial inoculants are as follows:
  • Less shrink & run-off
  • Greater dry matter recovery
  • Reduced heating improves feed nutrient content
  • Extended bunk life - Less spoilage
  • Easy and safe application
  • Improved average daily gains
  • Improved feed efficiencies
  • Higher milk production

We offer a wide array of bacterial cultures and finished ready-to-use products. Using Medipharm's silage inoculants, you can get the job done in an ecologically sound, non-toxic manner, and increase productivity and profits at the same time.
